For Frack sake!

Fracking [or hydraulic fracturing] as a technique of extracting natural gas has emerged as a threat to the natural environment - and it seems our governments think this is the right way to go to ensure energy security? The following is an interesting perspective on the 'fracking' approach. The film certainly provides an alternative view to the debate - perhaps a view that gas companies prefer us not to see. Enjoy :-)

GASLAND - A movie about the issues of fracking

  1. The technique is very effective to extract natural gas but it has a major disadvantage some of studies proved that it contaminates the ground water and make it unfit for drinking..

    1. Thank you for your comment Bruce

While I agree that the technique provides the ability to exploit vast natural gas resources, which is no doubt positive for the energy sector and wider economy - the risks associated with contaminated groundwater cannot be ignored. Thus, in my opinion, fracking cannot be justified as a suitable technique based on the fact that the associated environmental impacts are not only very serious but also long-lasting.

Unfortunately, as shown in the context of the video, it is apparent that certain government actors (such as Dick Cheney) and multi-nationals (such as Halliburton) only operate to maximise profits and care little about the environment - and indeed other people! As I always say - when it comes to freshwater and jeopardising its quality/integrity for profit - you really cannot drink bank notes!

Perhaps people will think twice about the suitability of fracking when the water supply of a large metropolitan areas is adversely affected. Sadly, until this time, it seems it will be business as usual.
